from the airport (CDR) to Bahia Bustamante. Four comfortable houses by the sea were remodeled to house our guests. Each house includes 2 twin bedrooms, living room, kitchen, fully equipped bathroom, heating and hot water.
Overnight at house
Day at leisure in Bahia Bustamante. You will be able to enjoy some of the following activities, depending on the weather conditions:
Navigation
After breakfast, we gather at the grocery store and assess the weather report and the tide tables to determine whether sailing is possible. We get on the boat and sail along the islands that are within the cove, approach the Roca Malaspina to continue sailing down the archipelago made up by the Vernacci Islands. While sailing, we can contemplate Sea Lion colonies (3,500 animals during the breeding season), Penguins (60,000) and colorful Marine Bird colonies. We might even see dolphins or Orcas (Orcinus orca)!
The Peninsula
Leaving the last buoy south of the village, we approach the Peninsula Gravina, with its thin sandy beaches sheltered from the wind by large red rocks that contrast with the intense blue of the sea. There are cemeteries of native populations on the Peninsula. At low tide, natural bowls form in the rocks. They are ideal to swim in the warm summer afternoons. You can visit the Peninsula on bikes, horsebacks or mini‐van. During these rides, you will be able to see a lot of birds.
Petrified Forest
In this era, the sea advanced from the Atlantic and covered the San Jorge Gulf area. This formed a bay that extended beyond Small River, and made Camarones emerge as an island. On the continent, life developed generously: forests covered most of the Patagonian region and the weather was mild, with plenty of rainfalls and moderate temperatures. Bahía Bustamante offers you the unique opportunity to discover the remaining fossils of these forests, huge petrified tree trunks that have become rock with its characteristic glow of opal, which has replaced the tree’s original organic matter. You can appreciate tree rings, traces of bark and many other features.
Seaweed Industry
In the morning, we visit the working place where the seaweed harvest is carried out. There we get to know a varied number of species being marketed by our company, their processes and uses. During the visit, we can also go to archaeological sites such as aboriginal working areas and cemeteries.
Patagonian Ranches:
Surrounding Bahía Bustamante with over 80,000 hectares and 22,000 head of cattle, you can find three ranches, called “Las Quebradas”, “Las Mercedes”, and “La Margarita”. There we offer you the opportunity of getting to know a real Patagonian ranch where, along with their inhabitants, you can participate in most of the ranch activities.
Day at leisure in Bahia Bustamante to give you additional time to enjoy the suggested activities available to you.
