Day 1 | Santa Marta - La Casa de Adán

Trek Archaeological Park and the Lost City

 

Arrival in Santa Marta airport and departure for the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta across the Panamericana highway for about two hours and an extra hour drive on a dirt road to the town of Machete Pelao where the trekking starts. The first two hours cross an agricultural area where yucca and plantain are grown. Break for a refreshing swim in El Machete river. Continuation for about two hours across the secondary jungle to arrive in La Casa de Adán. Dinner and overnight stay in hammocks.  Meals: - / L / D

Day 2 | La Casa de Adán - La Casa de Gabriel

Start of the six hour trek across the forest of the Tayrona National Park and the indigenous reserve of the Kogui, descendants of the Tayrona. The indigenous villages are used for special meetings and therefore can sometimes not be visited to meet the population. Arrival to La Casa de Gabriel. Dinner and overnight stay in hammocks.Meals: B / L / D

Day 3 | La Casa de Gabriel - Parque Arqueológico Ciudad Perdida

Six hour trek sometimes crossing the Buritata river. The last bit of the trek requires going up the 2.000 steps built by the Tayrona to reach the legendary “Ciudad Perdida”. Dinner and overnight stay.Meals: B / L / D

Day 4 | Parque Arqueológico Ciudad Perdida

All day visit to the spectacular city built by the Tayrona between 500 and I.700 A.C. Ciudad Perdida is considered the nucleus of the Tayrona culture: it probably was the capital of the region. On the banks of the Buritaca river, it extends for 2 km2 between 800 and 1.300 meters above sea level, in the foothill of Cerro Correa. The central part consists of a stairway that starts in the river bank and reaches the mountain top branching out to the left and the right towards the numerous terraces and platforms that served to build ceremonial centers, houses and storage. The site has been submitted for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.Meals: B / L / D
