The journey starts in Cancun. Self-drive, with the help of a road book, to the beautiful area of Tulum where you will be able to visit its famous cliff-top ruins. Continue to Coba site through jungle roads towards today’s final destination: the impresive archaeological site of Chichen-Itza (one of the new 7 world wonders).
We suggest to start very early in the morning to discover Chichen-Itza site by yourself, in order to avoid the crowd. The world-famous Mayan pyramids of Chichen-Itza are over 1500 years old. The name Chichen-Itza is a Mayan word meaning: CHI (mouth), CHEN (well) and ITZA (of the witch water). Some say this is because people were often offered and thrown into the nearby cenote as sacrifices, and those who survived were believed to be seers. Both sections of the site, the older Mayan section of old Chichen-Itza and the more “austere” Toltec section, are very interesting. After visiting Chichen-Itza you will continue your journey to the mysterious archeological site of Uxmal.
Uxmal means "'built three times" in the Mayan language, and though its name is a mystery, its beauty is not. As a World Heritage site, it is one of the best restored and maintained ruins on the Yucatan Peninsula, and certainly one of the most magnificent. Afterwards you will continue to the “White City” of Merida.
Breakfast at your hotel. Time to visit, on your own, this wonderful city, built more than 450 years ago on the site of T’ho, an ancient Mayan. Merida’s downtown area features a large tree-shaded central square. The city’s main boulevard, Paseo Montejo, is home to impressive European-style mansions whose pastel shades and elaborated trim are reminiscent of lavishly iced wedding cakes. On the way back to Cancun, we suggest you to stop at the town of Izamal to have a look at its huge ex-monastery. Arrival to Cancun. (B / - / -).
