DAY 1: CUSCO - CALCA - AGUAS TERMALES LARES - WACAWASI

Lares Trek to Machu Picchu 4 days

 

We will leave Cusco early in the morning by bus and travel through the Sacred Valley, arriving at the Aguas Termales in the village of Lares.  We spend the morning soaking in the medicinal hot springs, and after lunch we start a four hour trek to our campsite.

DAY 2: WACAWASI - EPSAYCOCHA

Today we continue up through the valley arriving at the community of Huacawasi. The people here produce some of the finest weavings in Peru.  We will be able to observe their great skills and brilliant techniques as they make ponchos and other garments. Passing the village we begin climbing up to Condor Pass, the second pass of the trek at 4300m. From here, we will have a stunning view of the beautiful Mount Veronica (5750m.) Descending gently for about one hour, we will come to the lovely Epsaycocha Lake, and our last campsite.

DAY 3: EPSAYCOCHA - PATACANCHA - WILLOQ - OLLANTAYTAMBO - AGUAS CALIENTES

Today our trail leads downhill to an viewpoint looking over the wide Sacred Valley. Descending into the valley, we eventually arrive at the community of Willoq, where we have our lunch.  Finally, arriving in Ollantaytambo situated in the fertile river valley and sheltered by mammoth mountains, this ancient Inca village is considered one of the most important living museums in the world, from here we will take the train to Aguas Calientes and spend the night there in a comfortable hotel.

DAY 4: AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHU PICCHU

Today you will visit Machu Picchu and enjoy this fabulous site at leisure.  You may choose to climb Huayna Picchu, the peak that overlooks Machu Picchu and affords fantastic views and photo opportunities.  In the late afternoon you will board the train for your trip back to Cuzco.  You will leave the train at the last station before Cuzco, Poroy, for a more swift and convenient transfer by road back to your hotel.
